JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operation of one or more Big Horn Health Network Practices. Assumes responsibility for all activities and personnel. Evaluates provision of services, ensuring that they reflect the organization’s philosophy and standards and takes corrective action through the performance improvement process. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote quality performance. Develops policies and procedures. Develops a system of staff communication that constantly improves workflows and coordinated care for patients. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department. Assures competency of all personnel. Assists in formulating the budget.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Keeps in touch with employees to evaluate the effectiveness of operations, utilization of personnel and supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

  • Participates in the development, implementation, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, developing, disciplining, and terminating employees within the departments of oversight.

  • Knowledge of the 5 Rights of Delegation: right task, circumstance, communication, person, supervision, and feedback.

  • Attends a minimum of 75% of Department Manager meetings per year.

  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with a wide variety of individuals and agencies.

  • Evaluating the performance of introductory or probationary employees, regular employees, and employees who are being considered for termination.

  • Timely performance evaluations are conducted with all employees according to hospital policy.

  • Secures and maintains the physical facilities, equipment and supplies which are required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimum physical environment.

  • Prepares department budgets for personnel, operating expenses and capital equipment. Responsible for fiscal operation of the department.

  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administration.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.

  • Delegates authority and responsibility as appropriate.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of performance.

  • Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, orientation and performance appraisal processes.

  • Coordinates the department’s inservice training.

  • Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.

  • Cooperates in planning programs and safety and preparedness for fire and disaster.

  • Attends and participates on hospital committees, as appropriate.

  • Is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and PI activities.

  • Provides staff education with an emphasis on the organizational performance quality improvement program.

  • Promotes and advances hospital-community relationships and participates in community affairs.

  • Ensures preventive maintenance of equipment.

  • Participates in strategic planning.

  • Ensures that all rules and regulations are observed by employees, to include overall corporate compliance.

  • Keeps employees informed about their work assignments, work progress, and opportunities for advancement.

Leadership and Human Resource Management

Delegates effectively and supervise follow-through. Persuasive, fair, impartial, sets high standards, and ensures clear focus and direction. Supervisory duties and responsibilities include:

  • Writes and conducts annual performance appraisals and ensures regular ongoing feedback, coaching, and communication with staff.

  • Ensures a high level of performance standards and achievement to meet organization needs and business goals.

  • Provides development opportunities for staff to broaden and enhance their skills and abilities.

  • Administers organization policies and procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with safety policies and good housekeeping.

  • Manages initial training of new employees and ongoing training as required.

  • Promotes an environment that fosters teamwork and commitment to satisfy customer requirements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related or business field, preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience, preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, preferred.

  • 3-5 years of management or supervisory experience may be accepted in lieu of a college degree.

  • Licensure or ability to obtain licensure when background credentials warrant that such is required.

  • Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, statutes, policies and procedures, and ability to determine the appropriateness of compliance in situations.

Additional Skills

  • Basic computer knowledge

  • Proficient in the use of Lean management practices.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient use of the English language.

  • Exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion.

  • Demonstrates solid abilities to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

  • Works effectively with physicians, other medical staff, and external agencies.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer relations skills.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
