School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB), located in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,167 - $4,833/Mon. DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Dive and Boating Program Manager for the

Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) and Principal Investigator (PI), maintains scientific diving and boating equipment, provides required safety training for safe boating operations to include SCUBA, Scientific Diver Qualification Course, Diving First Aid for Professional Divers, and Vessel Operations training. Drives to transport boats for training or to bring a vessel to a shop for maintenance. Provides technical advice on boat operations and fieldwork logistics, and assists research teams in planning and implementing vessel-based research activities safely. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Marine or Environmental Science, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

One to three (1-3) years ofexperience in at-sea marine environments, including motorized small boats. Includes experience with SCUBA facilities, dive operations and safely leading in and on water programs including snorkeling, in reef environments.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the basic principles of scientific investigation and interpretation.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Strong communication skills. Proven ability to establish and maintain rapport and positive working relationship in professional situations. Detail oriented and able to work independently to achieve performance standards, as shown through experience, resume and recommendations. Strong writing and editing skills. Strong working knowledge of computer systems (email, internet, computer word processing and spreadsheets). Able to operate small boats.

Must possess a valid drivers license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal drivers insurance equivalent to Hawaiis No-Fault Drivers Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Must be SCUBA certified (NAUI, PADI, etc.) and meet the standards established by the University of Hawaiis and/or programs diver certification process (which meets the standards set by the American Academy of Underwater Science) and hold the current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration, and maintain throughout duration of employment within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Lab Safety training within two (2) months from date of hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain boat operator certification (e.g., Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC) or Motorboat Operators Training Course (MOTC))

) months from date of hire and maintain throughout period duration of employment. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Work conditions are a combination of office and field environments, including underwater and periods at sea aboard small, motorized boats. Able to effectively work in cold/wet outdoor conditions. Able to pass AAUS swim evaluations. Able to lift carry up to fifty (50) pounds across uneven surfaces or on and of of boats to load and unload dive gear and equipment.
