About Evansville State Hospital :

Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible.

Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00, but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Complete and maintain patient's history and progress, services provided, or other required informational records.

  • Counsel patients to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making changes.

  • Develop patient’s treatment plans based on research, clinical experience, and client history.

  • Communicate with patients, review records, and confer with other professionals to evaluate individual’s mental and physical condition.

  • Coordinate trainings and events for residents including orientation paperwork.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance or a related field.

  • Certification in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling as issued by the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ICAADA).

  • Five (5) years full-time professional work experience in Counseling and Guidance or a related field. At least one (1) year of the professional experience must be in Counseling and Guidance in Chemical Dependency. 

  • Specialized knowledge of substance abuse, rehabilitation concepts, and the principles and techniques of substance abuse education.

  • Working knowledge of case management skills and ability to develop and implement treatment plans.

  • Ability to lead treatment team and program develop and implementation.

  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws affecting alcohol and other additions.

  • Ability to communicate in group and individual therapy sessions.

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • Must obtain CPR and CPI certification, demonstrate ability to perform techniques, and maintain certification throughout employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
