*Job Summary: *

Makes models and prototypes, does general machine shop work and mechanical repairs to equipment, and purchases tools and materials.

 

Essential Functions:

* *

  1.        Operates all equipment in Model Shop area, including manual lathes, manual vertical milling machines (Bridgeports), surface grinder, manual breaks, band saws and welding; TIG, MIG, and stick equipment.

     

  2.        Works closely with engineering personnel in designing and fabricating models and prototypes of products, special machines, and test equipment.

     

  3.        Develops and constructs equipment, apparatus, and mechanisms or attachments where only tentative design is available, or works from rough sketches or oral instructions to produce workable parts, units, and/or models.  Rectifies trouble products and recommends remedial action.

     

  4.        Plans and performs a variety of machine-tool, fitting, and assembly operations.  Makes necessary tools, jigs, and fixtures incidental to the work.

     

  5.        Works with other employees as required in connection with assigning, checking, and expediting work flow to meet schedules and results involved in the development of prototypes and special equipment to test and evaluate products and materials under actual or simulated conditions.

     

  6.        Maintains and keeps necessary inventory of parts and materials.

     

  7.        Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows standard or prescribed safety regulations and maintenance schedules on equipment.

     

  8.        Must work well with others as part of a team.

     

  9.        Recommends required equipment to meet our fabrication needs.

     

  10. Does required paperwork such as time sheets, job records, and purchase orders.

     

     

Non-Essential Functions:

  1.        Assists technicians as required.

     

  2.        Performs other duties incidental to the departmental function.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education:
    • High school diploma with formal training on machining equipment (Trade School/Apprenticeship Program).
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Not applicable to position.
  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum of two years machining experience
  • Computer Skills:
    • Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Travel Requirements:

  • Other Qualifications/Requirements or Skills:

     

  • Ability to run various pieces of machining equipment which includes lathe, mill, band saw, drill presses, surface grinders, etc.

     

  • Ability to perform arc and gas welding fabrication.
