The Communications Manager is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of media strategy and public relations to support PayPal Australia’s consumer and business-focused product announcements, messaging and marketing activity. Additionally the role has shared responsibility for Employee Communications activities.

The Communications Manager is integral in driving media relations, PR execution and issues management to position PayPal Australia as both a consumer champion and an enabler of Australian businesses. The role reports to the Head of Communications PayPal Australia and works closely with the Marketing team to support and extend the company’s consumer and business marketing campaigns.

The role also works with the Sales Team and Partner Team to position PayPal as an expert technology partner to enabling innovative commerce solutions that drive value for business.

PayPal Australia’s Communications Team manages media relations, external communications and employee communications. The team works to position PayPal as a leading fintech providing secure and effective payment and commerce solutions as well as defending our corporate reputation and achieving coverage goals. We are a small team, working in an agile and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute proactive media outreach programs including campaign strategy, messaging, press releases, media briefing documents, FAQs and media relations plans to support consumer and merchant-focused product announcements and marketing activity.

  • Develop and execute reactive communications strategy, messaging and execution in the event of a consumer or merchant issue impacting the Australian market.

  • Work closely with the Marketing team to achieve specific campaign coverage metrics regarding consumer and merchant campaigns.

  • Develop and execute proactive media outreach programs to support the Partner Team on PayPal’s ability to deliver value as a partner and technology provider.

  • Manage PayPal Australia’s PR agency of record and other resources to deliver results on time and on budget to support the program and communications needs

  • Facilitate the approval process of external facing client communications with PayPal Legal and Investor Relations teams

  • Shared responsibility for Employee Communications including internal electronic and physical signage, producing a monthly email newsletter, monthly all-hands meeting and twice-yearly all-staff off-site events.

  • Evaluate, customize and leverage US-produced communications materials for use locally

  • Build and manage strong working relationships with internal client partners, including Marketing, Sales teams, Legal, Investor Relations and the Core Markets (UK) and Global (US) Comms teams

  • Align with business partners to review/edit/approve materials from third-party organizations and companies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strategic, creative thinking while maintaining a strong focus on execution and results

  • Ability to act with a strong sense of urgency, a high degree of initiative, and the ability to participate in cross-functional teams

  • Stellar written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in developing strategy and executing media outreach for consumer and business technology and/or finance products

  • High energy level, enthusiasm and resourcefulness

  • Ability to influence and drive results at any level

  • High level of professional integrity and emotional maturity

  • Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively and comfortably with people of diverse skills, levels, experience and personalities

  • Ability to work confidently and independently in a rapidly changing, fast-paced and results-oriented corporate environment requiring a high degree of flexibility

  • PR Agency experience

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • 8+ years’ experience in consumer public relations and/or marketing with equivalent experience in B2B public relations desirable

  • Proven success in delivering public relations programs and results in a corporate context

  • Superior written communication skills and the ability to communicate to all audiences at all levels in a clear, timely and effective manner

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple initiatives concurrently

  • 2+ years of in-house communications experience welcomed but not required.
